Surfing 101 at La Union

Our much awaited Singapore trip didn't push through. Unfortunately, we didn't know about the international law wherein some countries (including SG) requires 6 months validity! What they consider valid is 6months BEFORE THE ACTUAL DUE DATE.So, even if the due date of my friend's passport is May 2013, It is no longer considered valid under the 6 month rule. :(

We cried for a day. We were just so disappointed and frustrated. But afterwards, we decided to go someplace where we will forget the awful experience. The next thing we knew, was we were repacking our bags to a surfing experience at Billabong Surf School at La Union.

GETTING THERE

We rode a bus going to La Union at Pasay Rotonda, Genesis Terminal. The bus leaves with 1-hour intervals. The earliest leaves at 2am. We arrived at the terminal at around 7:30am and our bus left at 8am. It was a bad move, cause instead of the 6-hour drive, due to traffic it became 7 hours.

There were 2 bus stops. We got off the bus at the 3rd one. Then rode a jeepney worth Php 70 to take us to the Surf School. Tip: It is better to ride the Partas Bus at Cubao because it will pass by the surf school itself. So you don't need to ride another tricycle.

THE ROOM:

This is our room. It has a double bed and a single bed. It is air-conditioned. 3 towels were provided. Has a cable TV. Nothing grand with the room. Cause we are not here to stay in the room, we are here to SURF! So, if you have a lazy bum, then you are in the wrong place! ;)

Now to the moment we've been waiting for...(enter drum roll..)
SURFING!

You can find many surf lessons along the shore
but of course we chose to have our lesson taught by the Billabong Surf School, simply because they are Pros ;)
We were not able to take surfing pics on the first day cause we were so eager to learn. So on the second day, we asked another coach on stand-by to take pictures of us. So, all these surfing pics were taken by him.:)

On with the tutorial. First, you will be taught the basics on land. The proper stance, and what you should do when you are in the water already. Basically, the do's and the dont's. :)

Tip: Wear a rash guard to avoid wardrobe malfunctions. :) If you can afford it then buy. They have a store there, with all your surfing needs. But if you are on a budget like us, they lend rash guards. Di lang pwede sa mga maselan. Lol.

Here are our individual waves caught on cam:

MY WAVE # 2

MY FRIEND'S WAVE #1

MY FRIEND'S WAVE #2

NOW, BOTH OF US:

It looks easy, but it is difficult. well to me at least. It is very hard to balance, especially when the waves go underneath the board. But it is was so much fun. :) A t first we always end up, thrown by the waves to the shore. But during our 2nd training, we were able to win over those waves! :) booyah!

Of course we weren't able to do it, without OUR COACHES:

THE FOOD :
For dinner we ate at Midway Grill, a restaurant suggested by our coaches.
A part of the menu

For breakfast, we availed of the free breakfast that comes with the surfing package.

After eating and a little bit of rest we spent our remaining hours before check out at the shore:

And that's about our surfing experience! :) How 'bout you? have you tried it already? Comments are loved!
Let me end this post with our blooper shots! :)
